Origin: Latin, Roman

Meaning: God-father

Variants: Iuppiter, Iovis, Jove, Jupe

Gender: Male

King of the gods in Roman mythology, as well as being the god of sky and lightning, Jupiter is an interesting name. I’ve used this for a female character of mine as well as a male character; I tend to use the same name more than once, especially if it’s a favorite. Interestingly enough, it’s also the name of the female protagonist of the upcoming sic-fi movie Jupiter Rising, coming out next month. She also shares the same first and last name as Jupiter Jones of the Three Investigators series, about a trio of boys who solve cases in their hometown, although whether that’s a coincidence or intentional, I don’t know.
