René, Renée

Origin: French from Late Roman Renatus

Meaning: reborn or born again

Variants: René is the male form in France; Renata (f), Renato (m)

One thing I’ve found interesting about French names like René(e) and Esmé(e) is that, though they’re pronounced the same, the spelling with one e indicates a male while the two e’s is used for females so if you ever see a man with the René/Esmé spelling, it really isn’t that unusual.
