Kira

Origin: Russian, English, Irish, Japanese

Meaning: Kira has a tricky meaning. It’s the Russian feminine form of Cyrus, which itself could mean a variety of things. The sites I’ve gone to claim its’ meaning to be the Greek form of Persian Kurush, which could mean either “far-sighted” or “young”. It could also be from Greek kyrios, meaning “lord”.

Kira could also be the Russian form of male Kir, which means “master, ruler”, so Kira can be translated to “mistress, ruler”. Wikipedia says it also a Japanese name and surname, but I don’t know how accurate that this.

Kira could also be a variant of Irish Ciara, meaning “black”.

Variants: Kyra, Keira
